Idiotic Story of the Day:
A West Yorks farmer has been slapped with a £150 fine for keeping a cow in a darkened barn and therefore failing to 'meet the psychological needs' of the bovine.Poor cow :( Now I wouldn't keep a cow in a dark barn without a good reason, but did they ask the cow what it thought of the situation? Just as likely as fining a man for failing to meet the 'psychological' needs of a bovine eh?
Ronald Norcliffe, 65, was nabbed under the Animal Welfare Act in August 2008 when operatives from Kirklees Environmental Health department and the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) visited his Scammonden farm on a tuberculosis test mission.(link)
The barn (dark at that!) was where the farmer planned on keeping his cow and its calf during the winter (cold ya know) and the people who know better(TM) didn't think that was a good idea.
