Hiatus

In case you were wondering, I'm still on dial-up until (hopefully) tomorrow around noon.

Touchy Towards Taiwan

China's got game - a seat at the UN Sec Council and a veto for sale. China is hip -fully crunk with high tech - able to shoot down capitalist satellites and launch more than astronauts.

A mean scary military machine is de rigeur for the hood. After all she's got nuclear NoKo on the south 40, Caliphates crunk up next door in nuclear Pakistan, borders with both nuclear Russia and nuclear India. China could launch a world of hurt at any chicanery she doesn't cotton to.

So why is China's new Navy is built around amphibious invasions?

China’s naval forces include 72 principal combat warships, some 58 attack
submarines, about 50 medium and heavy amphibious lift vessels, and
approximately 41 coastal missile patrol craft. China also fields over 700 attack
aircraft.

President Hu's '5 No's' explain everything perfectly what will unleash this armada:

a formal declaration of independence or a military alliance by Taiwan with a
foreign power, or foreign intervention in Taiwan's internal affairs. Delays in resumption of cross-Strait dialogue, and an unwillingness to negotiate on the basis of 'one China'. Taiwan's acquisition of nuclear weapons or other weapons of mass destruction internal unrest or turmoil on Taiwan

China is totally tripping over Taiwan. Long considered a rebellious province that would one day be welcomed back in to Mother China (ala Hong Kong) China has a jealous eye towards her democratic, successful, rich little sister. And a crazy intolerance for a hip, free and fun sister (who hasn't bothered anybody) to be independent. Or a homie of the Great Satan.

The Great Satan recently toured the Far East with stops in Japan, SoKo and China. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates got the red carpet treatment with an especial gig at Beijing's
Forbidden Palace.

The Great Satan pointed out how uncool the unannounced satellte shoot was, how provocative Chinese subs stalking one of the Great Satan's precious regime changers like Kitty Hawk could be. The Great Dragon and the Great Satan agreed to agree and built a magical hotline to avoid such disses in the future.

"We discussed the need to move forward and deepen our military-to-military
dialogue, including that on nuclear policy strategy and doctrine."

How ironic that the super friends hotline wasn't online when the Great Satan toured Taiwan the next month with a sweet best friends for ever missile deal that could annihilate amphibious assaults.

China let everyone know she was flat out freaked that the Great Satan would honour an agent of free thinking like the Dalai Lama. Zhang Qingli, the new hand picked Communist Party secretary for recently crushed Tibet made sure the hotline was online this time:

While many explanations are offered for the recent retardedness at Hong Kong - Is Taiwan the reason Red China freaked out and acted like a dissed ho with the USS Kitty Hawk?

Fred on taxes

WASHINGTON - Republican presidential hopeful Fred Thompson proposed an income tax plan Sunday that would allow Americans to choose a simplified system with only two rates: 10 percent and 25 percent.

Thompson's proposal, announced on "Fox News Sunday," would allow filers to remain under the current, complex tax code or use the flat tax rates.

Asked whether the plan would cut too deeply into federal revenues, the former Tennessee senator and actor said experts "always overestimate the losses to the government" when taxes are cut.

"We've known for years any time we have lowered taxes and any time we've lowered tax rates, we've seen growth in the economy," Thompson said.

Thompson added that money would be saved by his Social Security reform plan. He proposed that workers younger than 58 receive smaller monthly Social Security checks than they are now promised. Individuals could contribute 2 percent of their paycheck to a personal retirement account, an amount that would be matched by the Social Security trust fund. [link]

Some solid policy speak from Fred. Hopefully this will get his campaign back on track in time for the upcoming votes. I'll vote for the Republican nominee, but I'd feel much better if that was Fred :)

Kentucky should have won it in OT #2 but the field goal was blocked. In the 4th OT Tennessee scored and got the 2 point. Kentucky scored and missed the 2 point.

Halfway through the game and it's looking like the streak will reach 23 in a row for Tennessee. The offense is moving at will (one tipped interception that resulted in nothing) and the defense is playing inspired (intercepted Woodson next play after the Ainge Int.). If Kentucky doesn't find some 'fire' in the locker room, this game may get out of hand.

The Death of English Manners

Soldiers who suffered appalling injuries in Iraq and Afghanistan were verbally abused as they swam in a public swimming pool.

During a weekly rehabilitation class at a council leisure centre, 15 servicemen – including several who have lost limbs or suffered severe burns – were heckled and jeered by members of the public.

One woman was so incensed that the troops were using the pool at Leatherhead Leisure Centre in Surrey that she told them they did not deserve to be there.[link]

The Internat'l Palestinian Sympathy Fatigue Awareness Week at Annapolis seems like another futile jaw flapping event. Legitimate reps from a legitimate, democratically elected government of a sovereign nation parley with a chaotic, illegitimate bi polar terrorist loving, civil war infected fiefdoms whose 'diplomats' are determined more by loyalty to a leader than to their own people.

Front row seats include the EU - whose recent realignment with both the Great Satan and the Little Satan make a powerful statement. The Arab Leauge may attend.

Syria 's presence is significant.

A Palestinian State is not the real point here. Driving a wedge between Bashar Al Assad's Syria and the Mullah's in Iran is.

The Great Satan is making an honest effort to engage Syria. Honest because the Little Satan has something that Syria wants. And Syria has something to trade.

Disowning Hiz'B'Allah, refraining from blatant and covert interference in Lebanon and officially recognizing Israel seems like a high price to pay for the Golan. Easing sanctions and restrictions on Syria by the Great Satan are powerfully desired bits of legitimacy for Al Assad.

Iran sees a real chance that Syria may bail on her Axis of Evil commitments, after all the mullahs haven't been invited. Bashar build bridges with Turkey because of syria's weakness.

One by one, the Great Satan is forcing the unelected leaders of the ME to get with it or get dissed, smacked or replaced. Countering every Arab League raison de doofuss for the ME's failures is brilliant - especially if Annapolis itself fails.

Will Annapolis actually work? Who cares? This 'hudna' is an effective smokescreen for the near future.

When the Great Satan's hudna finally gives way to the Great Satan's jihad - America unbound can remind targeted regimes and their precious assets - Annapolis was their bridge to avoid all this 'instability'. And they blew it.

Seems a store-owner asked the police to patrol near his store for 'undocumented' workers (illegals for the non-pc) and that got 'immigrant rights' groups upset (illegal immigrant rights?):

34th Empty Table Fund hoping to hit $50,000 goal

The Empty Table Fund will try again this year to raise $50,000 to help local families in need.

The campaign began Friday and will take donations through the end of the year. It fell short $14,500 from its $50,000 goal in 2006.

Money raised through the fund is used by the Salvation Army to help families in Colbert, Lauderdale and Franklin counties who are in need of food.

Since 1973, the Empty Table Fund, initially known as the Empty Stocking Fund, has collected monetary donations. The fund joined the Salvation Army's Red Kettle campaign Friday, and the Angel Tree project that begins today. [link]

If anyone wants to help this charity out, leave a donation in the sidebar and tell me it's for the Empty Table Fund and I'll make sure it gets to who needs it (or mail it to them at address below)

"This is our biggest time of year for fundraising," he said. "My hope is that we can help as many people as we possibly can and not have to turn anybody away. It's hard to say we're out of funds for the month."

I am in Paris where I have attended the Court of Appeal special session called to witness the 27 minutes of hitherto unseen footage of the ‘killing’ of Mohammed al Durah which the court had required France 2 to produce. For readers who are unfamiliar with this scandal, I wrote about it here, here and here.

Suffice it to say here that the iconic image of the child Mohammed al Durah, pictured crouching with his father behind a barrel next to a concrete wall in an
apparently vain attempt to shelter from the gun-battle between Israel and the
Palestinians that was raging around them before he was allegedly shot dead by
the Israelis, served to incite terrorist violence and atrocities around the
world after it was transmitted by France 2 at the beginning of the second
intifada. Yet it is clear to anyone looking at this in detail that the whole
thing was staged, not least from the devastating evidence here which shows the boy
raising his arm and peeping through his fingers seconds after the France 2
correspondent Charles Enderlin said he had been shot dead. [link]

*update: This scene was partially (if not wholly) responsible for the 2nd infitada against Israel and is utterly fake. It behooves responsible news people everywhere to not only look at what they have, but to check and make sure they are actually reporting and not making it up (yes I'm looking at you Dan). No one knows if things would have been different without this heinous video from France2, but that doesn't stop one from wondering exactly how much bloodshed this newsman and his camera man have on their hands.

Will they pay for it? I seriously doubt it. In the minds of the public they may get raked over the coals for a few weeks or months, but it is very hard for me to believe that the government will pose any severe penalties on these monsters.

San Francisco, Mexico

Can we start the process of annexing SF to Mexico yet

issue municipal identification cards to city residents - regardless of whether
they are in the country legally - and to double the amount of public money
available to candidates running for supervisor.

Supervisor Tom Ammiano, who authored the ID card legislation, said the program is a smart public safety measure because it would make residents living on the social margins of San Francisco more likely to seek the help of police and could give them more access to banking services.

"People are afraid to report crimes," Ammiano said, referring to illegal immigrants who avoid local law enforcement authorities over fear of being arrested or deported by federal immigration officials. [link]

'Smart' legislation to help ILLEGAL immigrants get police help (the border is south) and access to banking... That's awfully nice of the scumbagsupervisor isn't it? Of course you knew that the kooks would have to one-up Spitzer's plan to get all illegals driver's licenses (even Spitzer has given up now), I wonder if this plan will carry the same backlash as that did [this is Cali, so doubtful].

With the blatant disrespect for the country, it's laws, it's values and it's people; San Francisco once again shows it is on the cutting edge of insanity. The main reason ILLEGALS are not reporting crime is because it doesn't make sense for a CRIMINAL to report illegal activity and get involved with the police. I would like to think that this ID card is the first step to finding the ILLEGALS and removing them from US soil; of course I'd like to think that the lottery is going to pick me to win (without a ticket even) but wishes don't always come true.

Now Folsom can have it's annual S&MDeviantFreakGay Pride festival with an Illegal float, at least there's something to look forward to heh. [h/t drudge]

Immigration

Seems I got a letter in the mail today from my employer. They want me to sign a form showing that I am 1) a US citizen or 2) a LEGAL immigrant. (I work nominally for the government)

I have no problem with this and am actually glad to see them doing it. It’s about time enforcement of the law became something an employer would want to do. I was looking at the form to figure out why me (I’ve worked there for 4+ years now) and saw that it was policy that everyone hired after April 2002 had to submit the form.

This makes me both happy and sad. Happy that something is being done at my employer for legal immigration (even though it is not a ’hotbed’ of illegal activity) and at the same time very sad that it took over 5 years to implement this simple form.

And that’s the problem. After nearly 10 billion bucks in cash from the Great Satan and 6 years of nothing but love - Pakistan is coming apart. Martial Law, media blackout,
independent judiciary under house arrests. A true Military government with a military crackdown on everyone except, well, the new improved Super Villian Caliphate. What the heck is going on?

While comparisons to the Shah of Iran back in the Pre Islamic Republic days exist, perhaps the Philippines are a better example. Long ago, an essential sovereign ally of the Great Satan was ruled by a simularly ineffective leader. Maintaining power required traditional remedy’s: faux elections, unfree media and the secret police.

In the Philippines - the Great Satan was at her best. Refusing to confer legitimacy (thanks in large part to a Straussian purest by the name of Paul Wolfowitz), America forsake General Marcos, his 1st Lady’s 20K shoe collection and allowed the Philippines a choice.

GSGF and I had this discussion (through messages) for the past couple of days. I’m not sure if she’s changed her mind about Mushie being the best hope for Pakistan or not; but I continue to think the only way we get back to democracy there is for Bhutto to take control through elections.

Musharraf has promised elections now in mid-February instead of January but at least they are being scheduled. Now we’ll have to see if he follows through and also if he steps down as head of the military (another pre-requisite). If he does and the elections are open and fair, I expect this episode to go away, if not, we could be looking at a severely hampered nuclear country with several groups in power (geologically) and that wouldn’t be good for anyone in the region (hello India).

Global warming (like global cooling circa. 1975) will fade, but the policies that any of the Democrats would enact would be with us long after the crisis was over.

If the Democrats truly want to help the US get over foreign oil, they should support domestic oil production. ANWAR and off-coast drilling, new explorations and R&D for the removal of oil from shale; all oil that could be brought into refineries without any dollars going to the mad mullahs (or Hugo). Of course if they were serious about the dependency, they would have thought of this already. The 'green' flap you hear is simply pandering for votes.

Iraq and the Return

Courtney has a great write up on the 'Surge effect' in Iraq:

It's time now for the 'other' political animal to jump on board and ride the bandwagon; or essential to leave the playing field for the serious people to work with.

Peace

JERUSALEM - At the outset of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's latest
diplomatic mission to the region, Israel's top negotiator acknowledged on Sunday
that there were problems trying to frame a blueprint for a peace deal with the
Palestinians.[link]

You think? I may not be the smartest person on the planet, but even I can see there will be problems making a peace deal with a group that has not honored one yet; nor have they stopped randomly sending rockets into civilian population in Israel. But of course, that won't stop everyone from thinking that we are thisclose to making a deal.

The two sides are at odds over whether the blueprint should spell out ways to
resolve issues that have derailed peace talks in the past — namely, final borders between Israel and a future Palestinian state, sovereignty over disputed
Jerusalem, and a solution for Palestinians who became refugees after Israel's
creation in 1948.

Israeli and Palestinian teams have been meeting in hopes of reaching the outlines of a future peace agreement, which they hope to present at a U.S.-hosted Mideast conference expected later this year.

They act like these are the only things that have 'derailed' the peace talks. There is no mention of the continued suicide attacks or rocket attacks initiated by Hamas and Fatah into Israel. And of course there won't be. It is not polite to point out that one side of this peace 'table' is not interested in peace of any kind except the final peace of the Jewish state.

Israel and the United States are bargaining only with the moderate government of
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank, freezing out Islamic Hamas militants who seized control of the Gaza Strip in June.

"There is a willingness to do this, even though the situation on the ground, especially in Gaza Strip, is complicated," Livni said.

Fatah (Abbas) is only 'moderate' in relation to the bloodthirsty terrorists of Hamas. Without Hamas there, no one would be talking to the terrorists of Fatah either. Until or unless the Palestinean people decide to be ruled by something other than thugs and murderers, peace will remain 'elusive'.

SEC Roundup

Tennessee routs Louisiana-LaFayette 59-7

Georgia gives up a length-of-the-field touchdown in the final minute but wins 44-34 over Troy

Ole Miss starts strong but has to hold on versus NW State 38-31

Tennessee Tech moves the ball well, but turnovers help Auburn rout them 35-3

South Carolina pulled out all the tricks they could, but couldn't stop the run against Arkansas and lose 36-48

Florida makes Vandy look like.. well Vandy 49-22

Game of the day: #3 LSU at #17 Alabama

This game went back and forth. LSU stormed out to a 17-3 lead and looked like they were in control. Alabama couldn't run and couldn't throw, but LSU couldn't hold onto the ball. Alabama came back and took the lead late only to see LSU drive down to tie it with less than 2 minutes to go.

Alabama got the ball back and on a drop back pass, Wilson is sacked and fumbles; LSU recovers at the 2 yard line and scores on the next play for a 41-34 lead.

Alabama got the ball back with time left, but on fourth and 10 Wilson can't complete the pass and LSU wins and keeps their BCS hopes alive (boosted by the fact that #2 BC lost to FSU)

Comments

Switched (back) to Haloscan (tracking, trackbacking, recent comments) and changed some things overall. Added a BP feed to the sidebar (new one every 3 days if I remember) and tried to put the rolls in scrollers.

When I did the div overflow, etc. I got NO rolls at all (not they didn't show up correctly, they didn't show up at all) so I had to go back to the long rolls.

All the comments are now gone... there was nothing 'recent' except for 2, James commenting on the BP roundup and DD2 commenting on Bloggers. My response is yes it's a great roundup and DD2, I want more people to post here :)

Still don't have Halloween pictures, but did get a pic from falen with lil bit painting in the new house (they are moving, same city, different location)
